Paste a link to see its theme, version, parent theme and plugins.

A free website tool by Sitepeel. Paste a link on https://sitepeel.dev/free-tools/wordpress-theme-detector/ and the result appears on the page.

## At a glance

- **What it does:** Find out what WordPress theme a site uses.
- **Input:** A public page link.
- **Output:** The active theme from its folder and its own style.css header (name, version, author), the parent theme of a child theme, whether it is free on WordPress.org, block themes, page builders (Elementor, Divi, Bricks and others) and the plugins the page shows.
- **Price and limits:** Free, no sign-in. Combined or renamed theme files and headless sites hide the theme.
- **Open it:** https://sitepeel.dev/free-tools/wordpress-theme-detector/

## What WordPress theme is this site using?

To find out what WordPress theme a site uses, paste its link above. Sitepeel opens the page, finds the theme folder it loads files from and reads that theme’s style.css: its name, version, author and parent theme. You also see the page builder and the plugins the page shows.

## What the WordPress theme detector shows

Everything comes from the site’s own files, with a link to the theme when there is one.

- **The theme and its version:** The name, version and author from the theme’s own style.css header.
- **Child and parent themes:** For a child theme, the parent it builds on, like Astra, GeneratePress or Genesis.
- **Free or not:** Themes in the WordPress.org directory are marked free and linked; others link their own site.
- **Page builders:** Elementor, Divi, Bricks, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Breakdance, WPBakery and block themes.
- **Plugins the page shows:** WooCommerce, Yoast SEO, Rank Math, Contact Form 7, WPForms, caching plugins and more.
- **The rest of the stack:** Hosting, analytics, fonts and colors, from the same check. https://sitepeel.dev/free-tools/built-with/

## When it can’t name the theme

- Some caching and security plugins combine or rename theme files, so the page no longer names the theme. Try another page, like a blog post.
- Headless WordPress, with a separate front end, has no theme on the page.
- A custom theme is named the way its developer wrote it in its style.css.
- Plugins that only run on the server, like backups or security, can’t be seen from outside.
- Sites that block automated visits can’t be read.

## How to find out what WordPress theme a site uses

1. **Paste the link.** Paste any page of the site and press Detect theme.
2. **Sitepeel finds the theme.** It opens the page, finds the theme folder its files come from and reads the theme’s style.css.
3. **See the theme.** The theme card shows the name, version, author and parent theme, with its page builder and plugins.

## Questions and answers

### What is a WordPress theme detector?

A tool that tells you which theme a WordPress site uses. Sitepeel finds the theme the page loads its files from and reads the theme’s own style.css for its name, version and author.

### How do I find out what WordPress theme a site is using?

Paste the link above and press Detect theme. You get the theme, its version and author, its parent theme if it’s a child theme, and the page builder and plugins the page shows. More ways in our guide to [what a website is built with](https://sitepeel.dev/guides/what-is-a-website-built-with/).

### How do I find a WordPress theme without a tool?

View the page source (Ctrl+U) and search for /wp-content/themes/. The folder name after it is the theme. Open style.css in that folder, like /wp-content/themes/astra/style.css: its header lists the Theme Name, Version, Author and, for a child theme, the parent under Template.

### What is a child theme?

A small theme that changes another one, its parent, without editing it. The theme card shows both: the child theme the site runs and the parent it builds on.

### Can it tell which page builder a site uses?

Yes, when the page shows it: Elementor, Divi, Bricks, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Breakdance, WPBakery and others, and block themes built in the Site Editor.

### Which plugins can it see?

Plugins that load files or leave a mark on the page, like WooCommerce, Yoast SEO, Rank Math, Contact Form 7 or WPForms. Plugins that only run on the server can’t be seen from outside.

### Why couldn’t it find the theme?

Some caching and security plugins combine or rename theme files, so the page no longer names the theme. Try another page, like a blog post. Headless WordPress sites have no theme on the page.

### Is the theme free?

If it’s in the WordPress.org directory, yes: the card says so and links it. Other themes are paid or made for one site; the card links the theme’s own website when its files name one.

### Is the WordPress theme detector free?

Yes. It’s free, with no sign-in and no install. It is the same check as the [tech stack checker](https://sitepeel.dev/free-tools/built-with/), so you also get the site’s framework, apps, fonts and colors.
