FAQ
Questions about the WordPress theme detector
What is a WordPress theme detector?
A tool that tells you which theme a WordPress site uses. Sitepeel finds the theme the page loads its files from and reads the theme’s own style.css for its name, version and author.
How do I find out what WordPress theme a site is using?
Paste the link above and press Detect theme. You get the theme, its version and author, its parent theme if it’s a child theme, and the page builder and plugins the page shows. More ways in our guide to what a website is built with.
How do I find a WordPress theme without a tool?
View the page source (Ctrl+U) and search for /wp-content/themes/. The folder name after it is the theme. Open style.css in that folder, like /wp-content/themes/astra/style.css: its header lists the Theme Name, Version, Author and, for a child theme, the parent under Template.
What is a child theme?
A small theme that changes another one, its parent, without editing it. The theme card shows both: the child theme the site runs and the parent it builds on.
Can it tell which page builder a site uses?
Yes, when the page shows it: Elementor, Divi, Bricks, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Breakdance, WPBakery and others, and block themes built in the Site Editor.
Which plugins can it see?
Plugins that load files or leave a mark on the page, like WooCommerce, Yoast SEO, Rank Math, Contact Form 7 or WPForms. Plugins that only run on the server can’t be seen from outside.
Why couldn’t it find the theme?
Some caching and security plugins combine or rename theme files, so the page no longer names the theme. Try another page, like a blog post. Headless WordPress sites have no theme on the page.
Is the theme free?
If it’s in the WordPress.org directory, yes: the card says so and links it. Other themes are paid or made for one site; the card links the theme’s own website when its files name one.
Is the WordPress theme detector free?
Yes. It’s free, with no sign-in and no install. It is the same check as the tech stack checker, so you also get the site’s framework, apps, fonts and colors.
